9 to 10-Year-Old Children

This stage is often a calm and studious year: a year to embed all of the knowledge learnt in previous stages, and to start preparations for the transition to secondary school.
Your child will be encouraged to take more responsibility for their own learning. Your child will be reading more books that they have chosen themselves, and will write across a wide range of topics (including what they are learning in other subjects, like space). Elements of punctuation like hyphens and colons are introduced, and they will learn new features of grammar like modal verbs.

There are a variety of English learning milestone your child can do:
- Talk about people, using adjectives to describe personality
- Write a My Page profile
- Read poems about people
- Talk and write about common illnesses and their symptoms

- Compare the city and the country using comparatives and superlatives
